I completed a BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Pretoria, followed by a BSc Honours degree in Pharmacology, where I was first introduced to high-resolution mass spectrometry and its application in biomolecular analysis. This exposure laid the foundation for my growing interest in advanced analytical technologies and their potential in biomedical research.
I went on to pursue an MSc in Human Physiology, also at the University of Pretoria. My research focused on developing and characterising African-centric, patient-derived breast cancer organoid models to support drug testing and investigate tumour biology. This project not only deepened my interest in translational research but also opened my eyes to the need for robust, sensitive analytical platforms to better understand complex biological systems.
Concurrently with my Master’s studies, I worked as an Application Scientist at ReSyn Biosciences, a South African biotech company specialising in sample preparation tools for proteomics. It was in this role that I gained hands-on experience with various proteomic workflows and was introduced to IM-HRMS bioanalysis.
These combined academic and industry experiences have shaped my enthusiasm for IM-HRMS-based research – especially the technology’s capacity to generate multidimensional insights from biomolecules. As part of the MobiliTraIN PhD consortium, I look forward to contributing to the development, optimisation, and application of IM-HRMS for biomedical investigations, while fostering valuable collaborations.
